Do Something New

Okay, this is my first post of 2010, first and foremost Happy New Year to all, I trust you made it to the new year fine. I was having a bit of trouble deciding what the first post of the year would be but as i was running this morning this seemed like the ideal topic to start with. With the smell of the new year, we all have resolutions and new things we want to do and changes we want to make but majority of people's resolutions don't last the end of February. i cant come out and judge anyone cause hey i do it as well. its a lot easier to give up than carry on.

This year i said i wont carry on the same way, the way I see it the whole point of life is to progress not to be stagnant or regressive. So this year i am going to do something New (hence the title of the post). It doesnt have to be anything major but you need to do something completely different from what you did last year. You can read a new book, learn a new skill, it could be whatever (as long as it is legal). Dont be that person the looks back on 2010 on 31st of Dec and realise you have done anything worth while. You have one life live it to the MAX.

Farewell 2009

As the year draws to an end, i cant help be reflect on the last year of my life. And i most say its been a good year. I started the year with a small circle of friends now i am ending it with a bigger circle but minus one person. i have been truly blessed in 2009. I start my final year of Uni, Finished. Got a very good degree, I graduated completing the circle of my family. I got my drivers licence, I started Freelance worker, the plans for a business were set into motion. I created this blog. I have been truly blessed. Amongst all my blessings. I lost one of my dearest friends *RIP Anneta*.

This year i saw a lot of my favourite artist: Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Mos Def, Q-Tip. It was a good year, got closer with my family and my friends. I joined Twitter this year and met some interesting and incredible people in there own way. This year i also lost contact with a lot of people, i used to think were friends. I met a special lady, lost her to circumstances out of my control. Met another Lady and we will see what the new year brings.

All i can say about this year is that God was with me through out. so i give credit were credit is due. Without Him i wont have achieved any of the things i did. So to God, I thank you for every breath i took this year and the ones i will continue to take.

As a new year dawns, i am not really a fan of new years resolutions because they mostly get broken so i have set myself tasks that need to be accomplished with my focus and dedication i will see them through. I also will blog alot more, i have been lazy but i will kick that habit. Hopefully some interesting topics, new trends, designs and others.

I will draw this post to and end by saying this, Praise God and thank him for all he has done. alot of people started this year and not everyone is ending it. Be thankful in everything you do. your life could be a whole lot worse. Well till 2010. I wish you and your families a Happy and Properous New Year.

Watch Who You Associate With

The theme of this post is another one of those topics that always seem to be around me, I tweeted about it a little while back but I felt it needed a quick blog post, "Association breeds similarity" this is a popular saying I hear this regularly in songs & read it in books. This statement also comes with biblical references, check out Proverbs 13:20. As humans no matter your mind set we are influenced by elements in our environment especially who we associate with.

The choices we make when it comes to association can potentially determine where we end up or how we become. Hanging around negative associates brings a negative aura around you. Picture this, if your main associates are scare mongers, they will instill fear into you whenever you have an idea and it could possibly make you miss out on a good opportunity. Avoid spending time with negative associates the effect they have on you is a lot more damaging than you think. I can attest that hanging around with negative associates turns your actions into negative ones.

Choosing the right kind of associates is crucial to your development."A man only learns in two ways, one by reading, and the other by association with smarter people" as the quote states by hanging around with intelligent people or driven people, their intelligence or drive rubs off on you which is a good thing well unless you are not interested in bettering yourself. A change in associates changes the way you view things and it inspires you to better yourself and your understanding.

In Conclusion, getting rid of associates is never an easy thing but if they are not bringing value to your life what is the point, you are better off with people that will inspire to greatness

5 Favourite Sneaker Brands at the Moment

Ok Looking at the post i have published, i realized i havent acually talked about one of my biggest passions "Sneakers", considering the name of the blog and my twitter page (@GeekySneaks). Majority of the people that know me, know i dnt play when it comes to my shoe game. I am going to run through my 5 favourite brands at the moment.

Brand 1 - Nike:

I had to start of the list with Nike. I have love them since the air '95 (Cool Gray/Neon Yellow - My first ones) to the TN's but love for Nike deepened when i got my first ever AF1's all white with a the white and gray sole. After those well lets say i went on a very long AF1 phase. Still love them -

Brand 2 - Supras:

i got into this brand last year and it was love at first sight, the SkyTops, Vaiders and TK Society. love them all. They have some of the nicest colourways i have seen. the new 09 holiday collection looks sooo sick -

Brand 3 - Adidas:

I actually dont own a pair, dont think i ever have but i am loving their new approach, i am feeling the Jeremy Scott ones, they are nuts. i am huge fan of the collabo they did with Def Jam esp the Young Jeezy ones -

Brand 4 - Fila

They practically brought themselves back from the dead. Their F-13 and F-14 line are sick, the variety they have is nuts. My personal favourite is the Fila Italia High tops. Very nice collection -

Brand 5 - Osiris

I recently found out about theses. i love the whole skateboard feel and look (although i cant skate to save my life). they have odd mixtures of colours but they work -

So those are my 5 favourite brands at the moment.

Till next time

Patience, Persistence and Perspiration

The theme of this post has been in the air around me for the last couple of weeks, so it made me write this new post. hope you enjoy

In the words of Napoleon Hill “Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success”. I completely agree with this statement. when striving for anything be it studies or Job Hunting or starting a business or greatness, you need to apply those 3P's to your life and way of thinking. The greatest athletes put in serious hours in the gym, on the field to make themselves great, so why do think we can achieve levels of greatness without trying, this is due to the society we live in.

With the current state of the world where we have faster cars, fast connections and other things, we as humans are programmed in a way where we want things instantly be it wealthy, the perfect physique or skills, we all suffer from this in one way or another. Majority of people lack the Patience and I am one of them. When you rush into things they are bound to fail as not a lot of thought has gone into it. Being Patient allows you to clearly see where you want to go or what you want to be or how you want things to pan out. This instant mind set causes a lot of problems because when people fail its a sets them back and potentially stops them from reaching goals. This is where Persistence comes into, the ability to keep trying no matter how many times you have failed. I was told "Failure is just an event, not a personality", think of this statement anytime you fail at something because it allows you to brush off that event and move to the next.

When applying Persistence to your situation, I believe Perspiration goes hand in hand with this. Perspiration literally means to sweat. As Thomas Alva Edison says "Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration". This is another statement that inspires greatly, you might have a great idea but without putting in the leg work, it will remain an idea. Looking at most successful people and organisation they have sweated to achieve their success, again looking at athlete's they literally sweat in order to be the best they can be. They put in the work on a daily basis to achieve their success.

Concluding this post, maintain these 3 elements in your pursuits as they really are a recipe for success, i can confirm that they have helped me achieve success. I know as humans it is difficult to do but with practice and the right mind set it can be done. Until my next post, Peace and Stay Classy

Never Can Say Goodbye

Hey Neatz,

Its been 5 months since you have gone and I still can't believe you are gone. I hope your in Heaven smiling down. You were one of the truest friends I had, man I miss you. My birthday is coming up this is the first time I am spending it without you making me laugh & trying to get me to smile in pictures. I really miss you. When i was sending the invite i almost added you, took me a second to realize you had gone.

On Facebook it says I should 'Write on your wall to reconnect', words can never say how I still feel or what you meant to me. The mere thought of you being gone brings tears to my eyes. I know its weird for you to see me like this, you rarely saw me show emotion, well anger and smiling. You know I didn't agree with some of your choices but you were still my friend, even when you were late to meet us, you were still my homie and I always respected you. you were always there to talk to.

I finally got my licence and I can't even take you on a drive but I guess I will have to wait till I see you later. You never got to be in my graduation pics but I know you will be there with me. Damn, I can't believe its starting to rain as I am writing this. You are my homie for life, I know I haven't been to see your family in a while but I dont know what to say, how can I console them when someone so special has gone. when we go out now, if really feels weird taking pics, you know you were the queen of that. its like you took my smile, when you left. not that i smile much anyway. I am gna be 23 in less than 2 days, I have achieved a lot in my life so far but nothing compares to losing you.

I am going to end it before i get to emotional, I can Never say Goodbye to you, you will forever be in my heart,My homie.

Love

Dinner from Hell

Hello World.

Tonight me and my family went out to Embassy African Restaurant '78 Blackheath Road, Greenwich,LONDON, SE10 8DA'. At this location we experienced a dinner from Hell as coined by Richard Lewis. (Sidebar: you have to be a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fan to know the reference). We were in a happy place as we left home, listening to Young Jeezy's Recession. We arrived at the restaurant, we were seated promptly and given menus, they gave us 5 menus for a party of 6 and when we asked for another one they said they didnt have enough WHAT you dnt have enough menus. We should have left after that but we didnt.

We began ordering, we asked for a Jug of Juice, they replied we have ran out. How do you run out of juice and the restaurant is practically empty we opted for soft drinks. Food ordering time, we ordered appetisers and then main meal my brother asked for fried rice, they replied they ran out of fried rice (This was another indication that we should have left) so he order Jollof. then the lady came back and said they ran out of Fresh Fish that was requested by my Mother (another sign but at this point going to another place would have been tedious). they brought out our drinks, we discussed various topics from sports to Nick Griffin to Kanye West to Lil Mama

(Sidebar: even my Mum knows about how Kanye disgraced himself with the whole Taylor Swift incident).

It slowly occurred that this place is a HELL HOLE, 30 mins and the appetisers werent brought out. Then our waiteress appeared with our Main Meal first and No appetisers and had the EFFRONTERY to try and be rude to my parents when she was questioned about the bad service needless to say she was put in her place.

(Sidebar: I was scared they might do juju on our food)

They brought 4 out of 6 meals, while me and my sister waited. then ppl that came after us got their food before us. At this point I had murderous intent (see my twitter feed). Finally the food came, nothing special but i ate it because i was starving. Once the meal was done, we were eager to get out of that place, it took them forever and a day to get the check. At this point i went to use their toilet, the state of their toilet was disgusting:

We paid and left, with utter disappointment, on the way out there slogan was 'Visa to good food'. VISA to what, are retarded? Your establishment is one of the reasons, Nigerians are not moving forward. Narrow Minded, No Manners having individuals. I am all for Africans having restaurants, it makes me proud but that establishment should be burnt to the groud and the staff should be flogged for such POOR service and iodine should be added to their wounds. The phrase "Better the devil you know" came to mind throughout the evening, be a creature of habit, dont always try new restuarants. I WILL never visit the place again.

In the end:

Quality of Food: sub par nothing to write home about
Service: This is a FACT Tasty in Woolwich has better service than them
Atmosphere: Hot, bland didnt set the mood for a good evening.
Overall: this is a FAIL of an establishment.

The best part of the evening was leaving to go home. That ends my lil rant about this Embassy Restaurant.

Please DO NOT GO THERE. you will regret it.

Peace
